As a Spanish teacher, my passion for fostering online communities has always found its perfect ally in Flip. From lively classrooms to engaging Outschool sessions and even heartfelt discipleship classes at church, Flip has been my go-to tool to spark discussions and connect with participants on diverse topics.

However, life recently presented me with a new role – that of a grandma eagerly anticipating the arrival of a little one into our family. In the midst of this joyous occasion, I faced a unique challenge. How could we host a baby shower that transcended geographical boundaries, inviting friends and family from around the world to join in the celebration, whenever they pleased?

As the host of this special celebration for my daughter and her husband, I embarked on a journey of creativity and connection. Unable to host a traditional baby shower before the baby's arrival, I turned to Flip as the platform to unite our global community. With a heartfelt letter crafted in both English and Spanish, I extended an invitation to loved ones far and wide, seeking to share in the joy and offer encouragement to the new parents.

Join me as I share the letter penned with love and care, as we navigate the digital landscape to encourage, celebrate, and create lasting memories for a couple who have traversed a challenging journey toward parenthood. Welcome to a virtual baby shower like no other, where the "whole world" is invited to participate and spread the warmth of well-wishes and support.

To host a party, follow the instructions below. If you were invited to a party and don’t know how to do this, read below the next graphic.

Step 1: Create Your Flip Account

Visit flipgrid.com and click on "Sign Up" in the top-right corner.
Choose to sign up with your email, Google, or Microsoft account.
Follow the prompts to create your account.

Step 2: Familiarize Yourself with the Flipgrid Dashboard

Once logged in, explore the Flipgrid dashboard to get acquainted with its features.
Take a look at the different options like "Grids," "Topics," and "Responses."

Step 3: Create Your First Grid

Click on "Grids" and then "Add a New Grid."
Give your Grid a name related to your party and add a brief description.
Click "Create Grid."

Step 4: Set Up Topics

Inside your new Grid, click on "Topics" and then "Add a New Topic."
Name your Topic (e.g., "Party Greetings" or "Favorite Memories").
Customize settings such as response types and moderation according to your preferences.

Step 5: Share Your Grid with Guests

Click on your Grid, then "Share."
Copy the provided link or QR code to share with your guests via email, social media, or any preferred method.

Step 6: Guests Join the Party

Guests click on the provided link or scan the QR code.
They'll enter the Grid with a simple join code if required.

Step 7: Record Responses

Guests explore the Topics and click on one to record their video responses.
Encourage them to share messages, memories, or any activity you've set up.

Step 8: Engage with Responses

As the host, log in to your Flip account.
Watch and engage with guest responses by leaving comments or reactions.

Step 9: Compile Memories

Consider downloading guest responses for a keepsake or compilation.
You can create a digital scrapbook or share highlights during the live event.

Step 10: Host a Live Event (Optional)

Schedule a live video call on another platform to thank guests and celebrate together.
Share your screen to showcase highlights from Flipgrid.

Step 1: Get Ready for the Celebration

First things first, make sure you have a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone or your phone, and the Flip app installed if you're using a mobile device. The app is available for both iOS and Android platforms. You can also go to the flipgrid.com website on your laptop or PC.

Step 2: Accessing the Virtual Baby Shower Grid

Visit the Flip website at flipgrid.com or open the Flip app on your mobile device. Once there, look for the option to join a Grid.

Step 3: Enter the Join Code

For the baby shower celebration I’m currently hosting (you are welcome to join), we have a special join code for you: 9a4a81d6. Enter this code when prompted. This code is like your VIP pass, ensuring that only our invited guests can join the virtual party.

Step 4: Explore the Topic

After entering the join code, you'll be directed to our virtual baby shower Grid. Here, you'll find different Topics, each representing a discussion thread related to the celebration. There may not be any other topics available, but just watch, you may be invited to join another topic later in the year or at another time.

Step 5: Record Your Video Message

Once you've selected a Topic, it's time to share your heartfelt messages! Click on the record button to start recording your video. Feel free to share well-wishes, or any creative performances you have in mind. If you have had a baby before and have important advice to give, do it in a creative matter. Do you remember when everyone and their mom, dad, grandma gave you advice about your baby? It drove you crazy! Nowadays new parents seek advice from people who are close to them or they can simply Google it!

Step 6: Add a Personal Touch

Flip allows you to add stickers, drawings, and other fun elements to your video. Personalize your message and make it uniquely yours! As per my invitation, participants can read a poem, perform a dance, sing, act out a scene of a movie or show, or anything that is creative that will encourage mom and dad to smile, laugh, or feel fuzzy inside.

Step 7: Submit Your Video

When you're satisfied with your video message, submit it to the Topic. Don't worry – you can always re-record if needed. Your contribution will become a part of the virtual celebration for the parents to cherish.

Step 8: Explore and Engage

Feel free to explore other videos in this topic (baby shower) and engage with the videos from fellow guests. Leave comments, share reactions, and be a part of the joyous virtual community we're creating together. The parents or the host can host another topic on this account with updates of the baby or even share their first birthday.

Step 9: Celebrate Together

As the virtual baby shower progresses, consider joining a live video call or any other activities planned by the host. Let's celebrate the anticipation of a new life with love, laughter, and shared moments.
